Defibrillator.Band
The Band Defibrillator
are the brothers Sebastian (vocals, electric trombone) and Artur Smolyn (beat, electronics). Two classical musicians who get involved in everything that serves the organic flourishing of their music. The both brothers have dedicated themselves to new improvised music. With the Smolyn’s, electronics, vocals and electric trombone meet as equal opponents who, precisely because they can trust each other blindly, challenge each other and constantly explore new boundaries together.
From 2012 to 2019, they toured across Europe, performed in well-known clubs and played international festivals. In 2016, "Defibrillator" released an album with jazz giant Peter Brötzmann, "Conversations About Not Eating Meat". They worked with Peter Brötzmann, Daniel Buess, Jerzy Mazzoll and Toshinori Kondo, among others.
Love Attack + Licht
During the Corona crisis in 2020, the two brothers devoted themselves to studio work. On their avant-garde base, they began to produce alternative pop music. Since then, their music has been characterised by beat, vocals and rap. Also for the first time, one can perceive humorous elements in their art. Both brothers were born and raised in „communist“ Poland. It is probably this sense of humour that they brought with them from Poland.
Their new projects “Love Attack” & “LICHT” is a combination of anti-pop, trash opera and satire theatre. In both projects, Sebastian Smolyn plays an exceptional talented, eccentric rapper Fakir Foca and Artur Smolyn an all-embracing guru of electronic music. Both in real life and in this project, the two gentlemen are brothers:

Artur Smolyn
Born 1976 in Piekary Slaskie in Poland. Instrumentalist, producer, composer and audiodesigner. He studied classical music at the music universities in Luebeck, Basel, Mannheim and Montbeliard. He graduated with four diplomas. Ever sience his graduation in the field of classical music he has been working as a trombonist with various orchestras (Sinfonieorchester Biel, Staatstheater Mainz, International New Symphony Orchestra Lemberg, Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Baden-Baden Philharmonie, Theater Basel, Basel Sinfonietta, Grand Théâtre de Genève etc.).
Parallel to his professional work, he discovered his passion for electroacoustic music. He started his studies at Elektronische Studio in Basel (Switzerland) and then continued his education in electroacoustic at the Conservatoire Montbeliard (France).
He has been worked with various musicians such as Hans Feigenwinter, Wolfgang Rihm, Helmut Lachenmann, Lurie Anderson, Daniel Schnyder, Fritz Hauser, Dominik Blum, Michael Wertmüller, Thomas Kessler, Jerzy Mazzoll, Krzysztof Wolek, Dominik Strycharski, Jerome Noetinger, Antoine Chessex, Camille Emmaile, Kasper Toeplitz, Daniel Buess, Peter Brötzmann and Toshinori Kondo.
For several years Artur has been working with two projects: "Defibrillator" und “Noisezone” with his brother Sebastian Smolyn.
He lives and works in Basel, Switzerland.

Sebastian Smolyn
Born 1975 in Piekary Slaskie in Poland. Conductor, instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and composer. He studied classical music and instrumental pedagogy at the Musikhochschule Luebeck (Germany), Hochschule Für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar (Germany), Hochschule Für Musik Basel (Switzerland), Musikhochschule Winterthur & Zuericher Hochschule Der Künste (Switzerland) and Conservatoire National de Région de Musique Pierre Barbizet de Marseille (France). He graduated in 2005 at the Zuericher Hochschule Der Künste.
As a classical musician he co-worked with Sinfonietta Basel, Hardcore Chambermusic, Ensemble TaG Trans-it (Ensemble Arc- en-ciel), Opera de Marseille, Sinfonieorchester Goettingen, Staatstheater Mainz, Sinfonie Orchester Biel, Theater Basel, Grand Théâtre de Genève and Cully Classique Ensemble.
Having gathered the experience playing classical music both solo and with various orchestras and ensembles he started to compose and play his own music. Since 2003 he has been playing contemporary, improvised and new electronic music.
He has worked with Hans Koch, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wolfgang Rihm, Dominik Dolega, Samuel Duehsler, Wojciech Garbowski, Lorenzo Bianchi, Olaf Rupp, Jerzy Mazzoll, Krzysztof Wolek, Dominik Strycharski, Jerome Noetinger, Antoine Chessex, Camille Emmaile, Kasper Toeplitz, Daniel Buess, Peter Brötzmann and Toshinori Kondo.
Currently he has been working with two projects: "Defibrillator" und “Noisezone” with his brother Artur Smolyn.
